Rural hospitals play a critical role in the health care landscape, providing accessible coverage for residents of hard to reach, isolated communities. Mounting data is showing that these essential organizations, however, are at risk of becoming extinct. The facts The data about the closure of rural hospitals is sobering. Recent research has found that: 673 rural hospitals across 42 states are at risk of closing in the U.S., according to a report from iVantage Health Analytics. 355 of these hospitals are in communities with “great health disparities,” or areas with high risk of medical conditions. These closures would result in 99,000 health care jobs lost.

Earlier this year, Cupid made an appearance in a small Arizona town near the borders of California and Nevada and forever changed the lives of two special people. At the Heart of Historic Route 66 sits Kingman, AZ, a dynamic western town that became the temporary home for Lauren, a Traveling Speech Language Pathologist on assignment with Jackson. We’re looking forward to meeting many of our Florida Occupational Therapists fact-to-face next weekend at the Florida Occupational Therapy Association’s Annual Conference in Orlando. Celebrating 100 years of Occupational Therapy, FOTA17’s schedule is jam packed with Education Sessions, dynamic speakers, a yoga sessions, and an awards ceremony on November 3rd and 4th. As the “respected authority on occupational therapy’s contribution to health and well-being in Florida,” FOTA continually works to support and advance the profession while making strides to better serve consumers.

In just a few weekends, over 15,000 speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists will be descending on Los Angeles, CA for the 2017 Annual Convention of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. From November 9th to the 11th, four of our team members will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center meeting Speech-Language Pathologists face-to-face to provide career advice, help them find jobs, and to learn more about the challenges facing rehab facilities today. Established in 1925, ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 191,500 members and affiliates. ASHA’s primary mission is to empower and support audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists by advancing science, setting standards, fostering excellence in professional practice, and advocating for members and those they serve.

This month we’re thrilled to introduce you to another outstanding team member in the third installment of our Employee Spotlight series. Sarah Williams started at Jackson over six years ago as a Credentialing Coordinator where she completed background checks and licensure verification on new therapists, eventually transitioning into her current role as one of our National Recruiters. Sarah’s positive, go get ’em attitude permeates everything she does, whether she’s boxing alongside her peers at UFC Gym or running alongside her co-workers in our annual 5k.
