Electrical stimulation is when current is applied to the living body to stimulate nerves or nerve
endings that are sensory or that innervate muscles. The electrode can be applied directly into muscle tissue. A less-invasive way would be TES (transcutaneous electrical stimulation), meaning that electrodes could be applied by way of or through the skin.
