Celebrating Community & Connection at the 47th Annual NBASLH Convention
Every year, the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH ) Annual Convention brings together a powerful community of speech-language and hearing professionals who share more than just a career path—they share lived experiences, cultural insight, and a deep commitment to shaping the future of the field. This year the annual convention is taking place in sunny Long Beach, California on April 23-26th.
This gathering is more than a conference—it’s a space where stories are heard, ideas are sparked, and support runs deep. That’s why we show up.
Here’s why this event matters to us—and why the work of NBASLH continues to inspire us:
Founded by Black SLPs for Black SLPs
Established in 1978 by a visionary group of Black Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists from across the U.S., the NBASLH was created to meet the needs of Black professionals, students, and individuals with communication disorders. Today, it remains the leading professional and scientific association advocating for these communities. From its founding mission to its present-day impact, the NBASLH has not only provided a space for belonging—it has become a model for organizations striving to uplift and support underrepresented populations. With initiatives like scholarships, licensure exam reviews, mentorship, and the annual convention, NBASLH is helping to shape a more diverse and inclusive future for the field of communication sciences and disorders.

Championing the Voices That Matter
What sets the NBASLH apart is its deep commitment to advocacy—not just for Black SLPs and audiologists, but also for the communicatively marginalized communities they serve. Their work supports:
- Research that amplifies culturally responsive care
- Students who need financial, academic, and emotional support as they pursue their degrees
- Professionals seeking mentorship, connection, and continued education
- Associates, including incredible SLPAs, who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of Black individuals with communication needs
By showing up for the 47th Annual Convention, we’re supporting a community that continues to thrive, grow, and make life-changing impacts—whether in classrooms, clinics, or the communities they call home. You can register for the 47th Annual Convention in Long Beach, CA here!
