Job Growth Expected for Occupational Therapists

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, occupational therapy jobs are expected to grow at a much faster rate than the average growth rate for other occupations --- an increase by 26% between 2008 and 2018.

What is the cause for this increase? The demand of occupational therapy services is driven by the population increase of individuals over 60. As the population ages, the number of people with disabilities or limited function grows. Another factor for the need of occupational therapy services relates to the medical advances that improve the survival rate of those suffering strokes and heart disease; as these individuals now require therapy to improve function and maintain some semblance of independent living. Many states are also now requiring that therapists work in schools and early intervention programs. The demand for therapists in this practice area has also increased the demand for qualified practitioners.

Jackson Therapy Partners “Steps” It Up for Charity

Orlando, Fla.November 10, 2010 – According to the American Heart Association, most sedentary adults take approximately 2,500 to 3,500 steps a day. The Association recommends taking at least 10,000 steps each day to maintain a healthy body and mind. During the month of October, Jackson Therapy Partners stepped up to the challenge with a new company-wide program, Steps to Success!

“Step” 2: Each participant received a pedometer which was worn daily for four weeks to log their steps. At the end of each week, their total steps were calculated and the team with the highest average received a prize for the week.

“Step” 3: At the completion of the program, the three teams with the highest cumulative average received a cash prize to be donated to their charity.

Jackson Therapy’s president and CEO, Scott L’Heureux, commented on the program, stating, “We wanted a program that would jumpstart an individual lifestyle change in our employees while working as a team towards a greater good. At the end of the program, our employees had walked more than 11 million steps and three distinguished organizations benefited from our sore feet!”

Santa (and Jackson Therapy Partners) Stop at Great Oaks Village

Company raises $5,000 for local foster home

Orlando, Fla. – January 4, 2011 – They made their lists, we checked them twice, found none of them naughty and all of them nice. It was a bright Christmas for the children of Great Oaks Village, a residential foster care home, in Orlando, Florida, when Jackson Therapy associates arrived at their door with $5,000 worth of gifts.

Jackson Therapy’s president and CEO, Scott L’Heureux, commented on the initiative, stating, “Our understanding was that donations to the Village had drastically dropped in the last year and our efforts immediately shifted to giving as many children as possible a joyful holiday. Each child wrote a letter specifying their hobbies, interests, and Christmas wish lists. Because of our associates’ generosity, we were able to sponsor 19 of the Village’s 42 children; as well as, provide Christmas pajamas to all 42 children at the Village and purchase a flat screen television and PlayStation®3 for one of the cottages. We’re happy to help such a worthy cause and look forward to touring the campus in the New Year.”

Great Oaks Village is a residential foster care group home for children ages 6 - 17 that have been removed from their homes by the State of Florida due to abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. The facility is comprised of seven 12-bed cottages and houses up to 84 residents at a time. Five cottages are used to house long-term foster and shelter care children, one cottage is used as a 23-hour assessment center for children just removed from their homes, and the other cottage is an independent living transition home for children that have aged out of foster care.

Great Oaks Village provides individual, group and sibling counseling by professional staff; educational services, including standardized test preparation, academic and vocational assessment; tutoring; and a state-of-the-art learning center. The Village also prepares youth aging out of foster care with job skills, budgeting, financing, socialization and etiquette.
